cutting edge music is what you're into, Galoka, near the Empress Hotel , is a
bar not to be missed. From improvisational jazz to alternative hip-hop, Galoka
features beats a little fresher than those of mainstream music. Early in the week,
Galoka hosts Pass the Peas, a night of open-mic poetry and music. On Fridays and
Saturdays, Galoka turns up the volume and puts on dance parties geared towards
the trendy twenty-something crowd. For
straight-up jazz, head to Elario's Sky Lounge, next to the Hotel La Jolla at the
Shores . Bright colors, dark carved wood and potted plants give the Lounge a lively
and sophisticated feel. Elario's features different bands most nights of the week,
including the Judy Chamberlain Jazz Trio, which performs on Fridays and Saturdays
to a packed house. Arrive just before sunset to take in one of the best views
of San Diego 's shores while listening to the notes of the band peal out across
the Lounge. The On Broadway Event Center,

ceiling, the venue is adorned with a 35-foot-long red bar, 72-inch television
monitors and a bevy of colored lights. Order one of On Broadway's top-notch martinis
and grab a seat on the plush white couches of the nightclub's Ultra Lounge, where
DJs spin urban beats against a backdrop of modern artworks. San
Diego offers a wide range of cultural entertainment to enjoy at night. Located
